This is a four hour class on the basics of kiln-fired glass painting. This class is limited to 6 students. It will provide an overview and hands-on opportunity to try out the process of glass painting, and you will leave with printed information and a resource list. Each person will have use of a light box, palette, paint, brushes, and two pieces of glass. We will be using old school techniques which are the basis for all more advanced vitreous glass painting including:
How to mix vitreous paint
Tracing solid lines
Making a semi-transparent wash/matte layer
Removing paint for highlights
I will be there to assist and answer your questions as we go. There is no kiln on site so If you’d like to keep your work I can fire it for you at my home studio and have it ready for pickup at my NE Portland home the following week.
A few caveats:
1) There are lead and chemicals in the paint that can be harmful if ingested. Handle with care. Some people wear a face mask to avoid breathing in dust.
2) I respectfully ask that if you might be sick (even just a cold) or have been around someone sick, please let me know and allow someone else to claim your spot. I will make the lesson up to you at a later time!
