Did you know Laika means “barker” and that it was Russian slang for dog? This Laika was the first creature from Earth to go to space. For me Laika was a mascot, but the more I thought about her the sadder I got. She didn’t come back. She is a representation of innocence and martyrdom and science and she was from the street! She’s like a fluffy Jean d’Arc.
