I wanted to interpret someone else’s work and I chose a chalk drawing from 1872 by Pre-Raphaelite artist Frederick Sandys called Mater Dolorosa (Mother of Sorrows). I just liked the picture and I chose it for its beauty, but the more I worked with it the more fitting it seemed for this terrible time we’ve been living though. A hard, sad year/era that’s been SO painful for so many that it’s hard to even encompass.
